In April 2007, a partnership was formed between two unlikely friends. Based on their mutual love for the anime Mai Hime/Otome, they met in a paintchat where they created many collaboration pictures. (viewable in the "Collaboration" section of this site.) Despite a large language barrier and distance, they decided to start an ambitious project. They formed the doujinshi circle known as "closet"!

The name "closet" came from the name of the school in Mai Otome. (Garderobe) Garderobe means "closet" in German. Since Mai-Otome is almost exclusively a lesbian slash fandom, it was a bit ironic that the students at Garderobe could be described as "in the closet," and when they graduate, they come "out of the closet." With this pun in mind, Yamino and mAni's doujinshi circle name was chosen.

Tina, a mixture of Tomoe(Yamino's favorite) and Nina(mAni's favorite), is closet's mascot.
